Are you planning a trip to Machu Picchu?  This prize is perfect to help you explore more of beautiful Peru, away from some of the typical tourist sites, while still covering the key locations between Lima & Cusco.

About Peru Hop

Peru’s first hop on hop off bus service, Peru Hop was started by two Irishmen living in Peru, who wanted to help people to see more of the real Peru through the eyes of a Peruvian.  The company now has several routes available to get from Lima to Cusco, Cusco to Lima, Lake Titicaca, and even to Bolivia through their sister company Bolivia Hop.

The routes stop at key locations along the way where you can ‘hop off’ and stay for a while, or stay on the bus to the next stop.  You will have the chance to hop off in Arequipa and go to the Colca Canyon, visit Nazca to view the Nazca lines, go sand boarding in the desert oasis of Huacachina, visit a Pisco vineyard, go to the nature reserve in Paracas and even disappear down the secret slave tunnels in Chincha.   They also run short tours from Lima to Huacachina and Paracas if you don’t need to travel all the way to Cusco.

In each location (except Cusco) Peru Hop will collect you from your hostel & drop you off at the next one, meaning no late-night bus stations or taxi costs.  Their team of Peruvian assistants on board the buses are on hand to help you with hostel bookings, arrangements for tours at each of the stops along the way, and any unforeseen issues you may have like a lost bank card or passport!

Peru Hop’s website has more information about the company & the routes they offer.

Why I recommend Peru Hop

I first travelled with Peru Hop at the beginning of my adventures in September 2015, and loved it!  I took Peru Hop from Cusco to Lima, and was impressed by the concept and the service.  I felt safe without having to navigate bus stations and potentially dodgy night buses, and all the assistants on the buses were great.  As a first-time traveller in South America this was a perfect introduction to bus travel in Peru, and I didn’t have to worry about a thing!

It was a great way to meet people, and although I expected a lot of solo travellers, there were plenty of couples and groups of friends too, even a family.  At each of the stops we could join the group for dinner if we wanted to, and the extra tours offered, like pisco tasting and sand boarding, helped us to bond – although take it easy with the pisco, the hangovers are killer!  I chose to hop off at every destination to make the most of each place, as I had plenty of time.  Even so, I still had lots of people to socialise with, as the Peru Hop wristbands made other hoppers easy to spot.

As Peru Hop says “Travel independently but never be alone.”

We were supposed to use peru hop too but it ended up not working with or schedule at all. It is so great that such companies are there to facilitate travels around the country for visitors!

  2. Danielle Desir says:

One of the biggest draws is the fact that you don’t have to worry about waiting around at a bus station late at night. Safety first always! I also really like that they help out with hostel arrangements and they even pick you up at the hostel. Genius! Really cool giveaway and I’m sad I don’t have any plans to visit Peru this year.

  3. Anna says:

What an amazing giveaway, I would love love love to visit Peru! Afraid this year is not the year, but I am sure the winner will have the best time there 🙂 Thank you for such a cool opportunity!

  4. Jojo says:

I want to visit Peru because I want to feel the energy everyone who has been there talks about. Everyone that I have talked to mention an indescribable energy when you are there. Something magical and spiritual. I want to feel that! And I want to experience the beauty and culture Peru has to offer. And play with the llamas

  5. Patricia says:

Not only does the free pass opportunity sound fantastic, but the Peru Hop generally sounds pretty awesome. I love how easy they have made it to see Peru, to meet other people and to enjoy less touristed experiences. Also, I’m all in on the visit to a Pisco vineyard!

  6. Iuliana Marchian says:

That is so awesome. I didn’t know that there are oasis in the Peruvian desert, they look exactly like the ones I visited in the Sahara. Unfortunately I am not heading to South America soon, but maybe when I’ll be able to make it you’ll have other competitions with Peru Hop

  7. Megan Jerrard says:

Peru Hop sounds like a great way to travel – I love their slogan “travel independently but not alone”. So great! And there are so many incredible destinations in Peru but fairly spaced out, that this kind of transport is a fabulous way to fit it all in 🙂

  8. Paige Wunder says:

What a great opportunity! When I was in Peru, I took the really quick flight, but this would help out a budget in a major way! I’m not planning a trip to Peru anytime soon, so I hope that someone wins who’s already heading that way!

  9. sabs says:

This is such a wonderful way to travel in Peru! I always used to think traveling through Peru will involve trains only, but this seems like a good option!

  10. Shem says:

Oh wow, I wish I was headed to Peru so I could win! I’ve had Machu Picchu on my list of places to see for so long, and I hope to get there someday soon. Thanks for sharing about Peru Hop — I’ll definitely look into them when I go!

  11. Naomi says:

Wow what a great prize! I didn’t use Peru Hop myself as it didn’t fit my schedule but I would have loved to if I’d had different times. It seems so easy and a great way to meet other travellers!

  12. Megan Indoe says:

Awesome contest! We have been wanting to experience Macchu Pichu for awhile, we were hoping to go this spring but for now it’s postponed! Maybe next year! We will be using Peru Hop when we go! Good luck to the lucky folks planning a trip soon!
