Backpacking Bolivia
Bolivia was the first country I visited in South America. Once I’d got over the major culture shock I quickly discovered that Bolivia is an underrated gem. Often overlooked in favour of its flashier neighbour Peru, Bolivia feels more authentic and less polished.
That also means poor road conditions and less tourist infrastructure, but you can still explore Bolivia and uncover just what makes it so special. From rainforests to cloud forests with giant ferns, salt flats to Death Roads, ancient civilisations, pretty whitewashed towns and cities, and a fascinating blend of Indigenous and Hispanic culture it’s hard not to be captivated by Bolivia.
I recommend you start with the Backpacking Bolivia Guide below which covers all of the basics including entry requirements, safety in Bolivia and a suggested Bolivia itinerary. Then scroll down to read more about specific places to visit in Bolivia.
